In 2025 the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) updated blood pressure (BP) guidelines defining Normal BP as being less than 120/80 mmHg.
Get Your Blood Pressure Checked
Have you ever had an elevated blood pressure at a medical appointment but passed it off as having rushed, waited too long, or just been stressed? Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure and many don’t know it; there are no obvious symptoms, but high blood pressure can be doing silent damage for as long as it goes undiagnosed and untreated. People in all age groups can develop high blood pressure so getting regular checks is important.
When high blood pressure (hypertension) is undiagnosed or untreated over time, it can cause other health problems like dementia, heart attack, stroke, heart failure, vision loss, kidney disease, and sexual dysfunction.
Know your numbers: Normal blood pressure is when:
- Systolic pressure (top number) is less than 120 and
- Diastolic pressure (bottom number) is less than 80
If your blood pressure is higher, talk to your health care professional about how to lower it.
