Andrea Vitrano joined the FVHD in July of 2025 as Chief Sanitarian. Her day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing the Environmental Health team, investigating environmental complaints, reviewing and inspecting septic installation plans, and upholding and interpreting the Connecticut Public Health Code and Connecticut General Statutes.
Andrea graduated from Westfield State University with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science and is currently working towards her Masters of Public Health at Eastern Washington University. Her previous work experience as an Environmental Scientist, property manager, and heavy equipment operator makes it easy for her to talk to septic installers and landlords alike. Andrea always works towards the goal of educating, whether that be supporting her staff through their own certifications or aiding the public through understanding the Connecticut Public Health Code.
Outside of work, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family, including nephew William and nieces Madelyn and Alexandra. Andrea takes advantage of time outside whenever she can. In the winter, she spends just about every weekend skiing and loves going up north to Vermont for the best slopes. She also takes a bike ride every morning, enjoying the Connecticut Rails to Trails routes and fresh air. Andrea is a big foodie. She loves finding new restaurants and believes that a well-cooked meal and a good glass of wine are a great way to end the day.
The FVHD is happy to have Andrea on the team. Whether it is at work or at play, she brings focus, energy, and determination to everything she does.
