Most working adults in the U.S. spend more than half of their day on the job or doing work-related activities. That’s why it’s so important for workplaces to support employee health. When companies focus on wellness, it helps people stay healthier, reduces medical costs, and even boosts productivity. Right now, 90% of the country’s $4.1 trillion healthcare spending goes toward treating long-term physical and mental health issues. Chronic diseases also cause 7 out of 10 deaths each year. But there is a silver lining: many of these health problems can be prevented by eating well, staying active, avoiding tobacco and too much alcohol, and getting regular check-ups. That’s where workplace wellness programs come in!
The Farmington Valley Health District (FVHD) is excited to partner with small businesses in our community to facilitate new workplace wellness programs that suit any business’s needs. Thanks to federal grant funding, our community health team has been hard at work creating resources to help local workplaces get started.
Workplace wellness programs are designed to support employees’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. These programs can include things like health workshops, fitness challenges, stress management tips, mental health resources, and even changes to workplace policies to encourage healthier habits. When companies make health a priority, it creates a positive work environment where employees feel supported, less stressed, and more satisfied in their jobs.
FVHD is here to help by providing toolkits and support to small businesses looking to promote healthy habits and prevent chronic diseases. Our goal is to provide businesses the resources they need to make long-term, sustainable changes that improve employee health and create a happier, healthier workplace.
