As we lose the light and the summer sun, we sometimes lose the motivation to stay active. Keeping physically activity as part of your daily routine provides the following benefits:

- Fun outdoor activities include snowshoeing, shoveling snow, sledding or taking a brisk walk or a hike.
- When engaging in outdoor activities in the cold weather be sure to stay warm and stay safe.
- Wear layers and stay away from cotton as it may become wet with sweat or snow, and this will make you feel colder.
- Know the signs of hypothermia including lack of coordination, mental confusion, slowed reactions, slurred speech, cold hands or feet, shivering and sleepiness.
If you want to stay indoors there are many options for staying active. Fun ideas to try include:
- Setting up a home workout circuit
- Dancing
- Active housework such as vacuuming and sweeping
- Yoga or other fitness class
- Seeking out a friend or group that will help you commit
- Exercising during your lunch break (plan ahead, and anticipate the weather)
